Simple steps to get found on Google without the meltdown!
Alright guys, let’s talk about that buzzword you keep hearing but secretly avoid like a tax bill: SEO.

Picture this, you have created your brand new website, or made some exciting new updates. You grab your phone & put "bridal hair and/or makeup in Hampshire" into your browser, you hit search, start scrolling down...... and down.......and wait down again!??....... WTF!??
Suddenly your on the 5th page and still no where to be found!! Meanwhile your 'competitors' are up proudly on page 1!
You're staring at your website thinking “I’ve no idea what Google wants from me but I’m exhausted already just thinking about it!” — If this is you, then this one’s for you.
Because yes, SEO matters.
Yes, you can do it without being a tech wizard.
And no, you don’t need to turn into a robot or start writing like some corporate copy clone to make it work.
You just need to know what brides are actually searching for — and show up as you, when they do.
Let’s break it down!
What even is SEO (and why should you give a sh*t)?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation – aka making your website easier for Google to show to brides when they’re panicking at 2am searching “natural bridal makeup artist in Hampshire.”

If you want to be found by dream clients without relying on Instagram’s algorithm or going viral on TikTok… SEO is your best mate.
The old way (aka the most draining way):
Rely on Instagram only
Post pretty pictures and hope for the best
Leave the website looking like a digital ghost town
Avoid blogging because “who even reads blogs anymore?” (Spoiler: brides do)
The new way (the “you can actually do this” version):
1. Add real, location-based keywords (without sounding like a knob!)
Stop trying to sound fancy.
Start writing like you would & how your dream bride actually searches.
Instead of:
“Welcome to my website, I provide premium services for all events and occasions.”
Try:
“Hey, I’m Claire – a bridal makeup artist in Hampshire creating soft, romantic looks for the chilled, modern bride.”
Mention your location and your style throughout your site: homepage, about page, services page, and any blogs.
Use phrases like:
“Bridal hair stylist in Manchester”
“Elegant wedding makeup West Midlands”
“Soft glam bridal beauty Cornwall”
Google reads it. Brides search it. You win.

2. Write blogs that answer what brides are Googling
Don’t panic – you don’t need to write essays. Just imagine your ideal bride is sat across from you, asking questions, and you’re replying over a cuppa.
Some juicy blog ideas:
“What to expect at your bridal trial (and what to bring!)”
“Top 5 wedding day beauty prep tips for glowing skin”
“How to choose the right hairstyle for your wedding dress”
Tip: Include your location in the title and headings where it feels natural.
Example: “Wedding Day Prep Tips from a Cornwall Makeup Artist”
Your blog doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be you, solving a problem. Google loves that.
3. Rename your photos (because ‘IMG_7299’ tells Google nothing)
You don’t need to become a tech wizard – just name your damn files before uploading them.
Instead of:
IMG_3748.jpg
Try:
bridal-soft-glam-wedding-makeup-bath.jpg
Keep it simple and descriptive. Every photo is a little SEO boost.
Bonus points: Add “alt text” when you upload your images to describe what’s in them. It helps with both SEO and accessibility.
4. Make a ‘Recommended Suppliers’ page
This is an absolute hidden gem. Google loves a well-linked site, and this boosts your chances of showing up alongside other well-known wedding suppliers.

What to include:
Names + locations of your favourite venues, photographers, florists etc.
A sentence or two about why you love working with them
Links to their websites (and you never know, they might return the favour with a link to yours)
It’s a win-win — better SEO and better networking. You’re basically becoming a local bridal fairy godmother.
5. Add testimonials with keywords
Instead of just slapping “Sophie was amazing x” on your site… try this:
“Sophie gave me the most beautiful, soft bridal makeup for my wedding in the Cotswolds. She made me feel so calm, and the makeup lasted all day.”
See what we did there? It’s a testimonial and a sneaky SEO boost.
Don’t be afraid to lightly edit or guide your clients when asking for reviews – they won’t mind if it helps you grow.
6. Create a ‘Weddings I Love’ page or gallery
Let’s say you love coastal elopements, barn weddings, or countryside venues — make it known.

Create a gallery or blog section titled:
“My Favourite Boho Weddings in Cornwall”
“Romantic Barn Wedding Hair Looks I Loved Creating”
Use those titles on your website pages – not just on social.
These help Google understand what your content is about and where you work.
7. Get found locally: Claim your Google Business Profile
If you haven’t done this already – go do it. It’s like giving Google your business card.
Add your location(s), services, and hours
Upload professional images
Collect reviews from past brides
Post updates (think: blog teasers, wedding tips, etc.)
Local SEO is what helps you pop up when someone types “wedding hair stylist near me.” Powerful stuff.
The Summary:
If you take one thing away from this, let it be this:
You don’t need to be an SEO expert. You just need to show up online like you do in person – clearly, confidently, and consistently.
Start here:
Add your location to your homepage copy
Rename your photos with simple, relevant keywords
Write one bride-friendly blog post this month
Add a supplier list page
Claim your Google Business profile
Then pour yourself a G&T and pat yourself on the back, because you just did the thing most artists avoid for years.
You don’t have to shout to be seen.
You just need to start showing up smart — on Google, and as you!
